Keep it until peace comes
Women like to share gifts with each other. We always like to give gifts on different occasions, sometimes even without a reason. It might be that we have just seen something and thought that it will suit to a friend.
Inspired by the story of Leyla Kıralp whose husband has been missing since 1974,and Greek Cypriot friend Maria gave her a handkerchief to wipe her tears and she has kept it ever since, on February 26th, 2011Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot women shared small gifts with each other with the message: Keep it until peace comes.
The gifts were shared in a street activity in front of the Municipal Information Room for Peace Lokmadji/ Ledras. Leyla Kıralp, whose birthday it was on the day will be signing her book “Wet White Handkerchief” among other women writers.
The gifts were of symbolic value, hand-made or symbolizing something special to the women giving it.
A song composed for the special event by Aysun Kahraman ( Lyrics by Neşe Yaşın) was also performed.
