UNSCR 1325
This project's aim is to further the agenda presented in the UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which calls on "all actors involved in negotiating and implementing peace agreements to adopt a gender perspective that included the special needs of women and girls during repatriation and resettlement, rehabilitation, reintegration and post-conflict reconstruction".
From the 24th to the 27th of September, 2010, Hands Across the Divide organised two events to raise awareness of UNSCR 1325 in Cyprus.
From the 24th to the 26th Hands Across the Divide was present in Nicosia, near the Ledra Street/Locmaji checkpoint with a billboard with a few bullet points on how women view peace and what it means to them. Women were encouraged to contribute their ideas, as there was space for others to write what peace means for them (See the event details here).
On the 27th of September, Hands Across the Divide together with GAT (Gender Advisory Group) organised an open event at the Ledra Information Centre, in Nicosia, at which Martha Jean Baker – an attorney, activist and author - spoke on UNSCR 1325 and its relevance to Cyprus (see the event details here).
