Middle East Violence - 5 April 2002

STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY WITH WOMEN OF THE JERUSALEM LINK.

 

 

We, as concerned women and men of Cyprus, wish to extend our friendship and solidarity to the people of Palestine and Israel and our sympathy to all families who have suffered bereavement and loss in the current Israeli-Palestinian cycle of violence.

 

We call on regional and world leaders, especially of the USA and the European Union, to acknowledge their responsibilities and exert pressure on the Israeli authorities to put an immediate end to the Israeli occupation of Arab land and for the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

 

We believe that a true and just peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through a process of dialogue and mutual respect. We call on all citizens from both sides to join together to break down the wall of suspicion and put an end to the violence.

 

In particular, we applaud the courageous efforts being made, in this climate of hatred, fear and senseless violence, by the women of Palestine and Israel to create an atmosphere of reconciliation and trust.

 

We share your vision of a better and safer future for your children and we reach out to you with love and solidarity at this difficult time.
