Women's Multicultural Centre, Nicosia

The intention is to furnish a meeting space to enable the bringing together women and girls of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities, divided from each other by a sequence of political and military actions between 1963 and 1974, but also of women of other backgrounds and identifications living in Cyprus or returning to or visiting the island.
The Café-Centre is designed as a project for women and girls because our voices have till now seldom been heard and our gender-specific needs seldom met. Women have suffered in many different ways, due both to the political division drawn across the island, and the inequality of the sexes in the political process and cultural life. An important aim in the project is thus women’s empowerment.
