Principal aim
The principal aim of Hands Across the Divide is to enable contact and co-operation between women for the purpose of contributing to a culture of peace and multiculturalism in Cyprus. We aspire to help create a united and democratic society, in which there is equality, including equal access to resources and gender equality, and respect for all regardless of differences. We stress the urgency of a resolution of the Cyprus conflict.
Objectives
• To plan and undertake a programme of activities designed to contribute to the principal aim.
• To encourage and enable all members to play an active part in the activities of the Association.
• To model within the Association itself, and to help create in Cyprus and in the international sphere, structures, processes and relationships that are democratic, inclusive, equal, respectful and nonviolent.
• To develop and promote equality and equal opportunities, particularly for women
• To develop and promote feminist values, and to strive to bring an end to patriarchal oppression, exploitation and control of women, and violence against women, in Cyprus.
• To achieve the demilitarization of Cyprus as a step towards peace and disarmament in the region, the European Union and the world.
