Peace is too precious to be left men alone!

We all want Peace. But there are different ways of defining what Peace is and what this entails. For us, Peace is a concept, a value, an attitude, a policy, a process and a strategy.

1. Peace is a Value which means the elimination of all forms of violence, fears and oppressions,
2. Peace means doing away with all dividing lines including military, check points, social divisions and political discriminations,
3. Peace means a federal Cyprus solution with political and gender equality in order to give us a future, to unlock our energies so that we can all contribute to social change as a society,
4. Peace means to also alleviate men’s oppression from hegemonic masculinity and victimhood due to our patriarchal militaristic system,
5. Peace means having an equal voice to that of men in all areas of our life both in the private and public realms, at the workplace and at the decision-making centres,
6. Peace means security without armies and weapons and defence budgets,
7. Peace means education for all, clean water for all, and a  healthy environment,
8. Peace means freedom to decide about our lifestyle and be able to walk late at night and feel safe in our streets,
9. Peace means treating others with respect, appreciating differences and valuing each other’s dignity,
10. Peace means solidarity with all oppressed social groups and disadvantaged people,
11. Peace means establishing institutional structures to disseminate an education for a peace culture and gender equality.

On the International Peace Day, we, the members of the Feminist Atelier, Hands Across the Divide and the Patriotic Women’s Union, want to raise our voice together and invite the leaders of both communities to take real initiatives and responsibility to find a federal solution as soon as possible.

FEDERALISM AND FEMINISM NOW!
